Valentine's Day is coming. Make sure you and your bedroom are ready for romance. Here
are five recommendations to get you started:
1) Set the Stage for Support and Safety: Place the head of your bed securely against a wall.
Have a solid headboard and equally sized bed-side tables and lamps. Make sure all the nuts
and bolts of your bed are tightly assembled and that your bed is squeak-free.
2) Siting the Bed: Place your bed on the wall opposite the doorway, but not in front of the
door, and not against a wall with plumbing inside it. Avoid placing it so that a bathroom
door opens across the bed. If you cannot see the door from your bed, hang a mirror so you
can see anyone entering the room as you lie in bed.
3) Only the Two of You: Remove photos of anyone else except you and your partner. No
images of children, parents, pets, or even total strangers should be in your bedroom.
Carefully consider what statements are made by the artwork that is in your bedroom.
4) What a Workout: Remove treadmills and stationary bikes from the bedroom. You do not
want your relationship to “be a workout” or to “go nowhere” no matter how much effort you
put into it.
5) The Giant Eye: Bedrooms are for sex and sleeping. The television is a giant eyeball that
watches you endlessly. While it is OK to snuggle up once in a while and watch something
together, the eye doesn’t need to watch you, endlessly demanding your attention. Your
attention should be directed at your partner. Put the TV inside the closed doors of an
armoire or drape it at night.
